What Is Up With Blogger?

Am I the only one having issues posting in their blog lately? It times out my page almost everytime I try to write a post!

Anyhow....

I started synthyroid today - don't really notice a difference yet, I'll let ya know when I do! Well I am not very hungry, but that's ok and kind of normal for this early in the day.

Today is my brother Denny's 23rd birthday, or he'd be 23? Yeah something like that. Yesterday my mom and I went out to the cemetary and left him flowers and balloons for his birthday and had our lunch out there with him. My mom was really upset because my dad said he got a marker for Denny's grave and there wasn't one, just a small number marking it. She called him and he said that the funeral cost him too much money, that he wasn't ever planning on visiting the grave, and didn't care what marked it. My mom was so upset! Anyhow she's going to see about getting a headstone for him.

In other news, Justin's been majorly backsliding in his potty training, so today is Potty Boot Camp, no accidents all day, or else! LOL I think he's just being lazy, but it's driving me crazy! So I set the timer and we're back to every thirty minutes until he's accident free again. I think when he got sick a while back it messed up his habit of going to the bathroom at certain times. Anyhow gotta nip this in the bud, he was fully potty trained, we're not going back to diapers!

Jakey's bird died the other day. He's pretty upset about it. The cat killed it! So, understandably, he's upset at the cat. He wants another bird but my argument is why? The cat will just hurt that one too? So far I'm winning.

The county fair is in town and we're going on Saturday evening, I'm looking forward to it! Fair food is the best! And seeing the boys loving riding rides and having fun is the best part!

Well Justin's 30 minute timer is about to go off, so I have to take him back to the bathroom so he can try again....bye!

Survived The Weekend!

Friday was crazy with the Primary program practice in the afternoon and Kevin came home from Arizona. I was so exhausted by the end of it that I went to bed very early Friday night. Saturday I ran around like a crazy person getting a group gift card for my friend's "shower" and getting my hair cut and grocery shopping. Then Saturday night we had a stake dinner, tribute to our former stake RS Pres then the General Relief Society Broadcast. That was fantastic! (Don't you think so?) Then after the broadcast about 11 of us went to Baker's Square for pie and Shannon (pg friend who's pg we were celebrating) had NO IDEA it was a total surprise we were there to honor her :) So that was fun.

Today was our program and it went ok. We have 25 kids (not many at all really) and we went over by 30 minutes! Overall it went well though, besides kids swearing they desperately had to go pee in the middle of the program and one child who wouldn't say anything but "pizza' into the microphone (who the bishop promptly removed from the stand and had a firm talking to after Sacrament Meeting), overall though, it was good. At least it's over.

So we left church 30 mins early so I could take Kevin and the boys home and get to my mom's ward. I got to her building on time, now she's been saying her ward is big, and I've seen them some what but now I realize that was is REDICULOUSLY large. That ward will probably be split, it's something like you'd expect in Utah (2 nurseries, 2 Sunbeam classes, insanity!). So I counted when the kids went up (Natalle and Erica were in the program) - 70!!! And they only went over by like 20 minutes! Anyhow I decided that since the boys were napping I would just stay for the adult classes since I haven't attended Relief Society in forever, it was very nice - I didn't have to ask anyone to sit still or stop interrupting! Woohoo!

Anyhow so now here I sit, having attended nearly 6 hours of meetings, I have my fill of the Spirit for sure for today! I'm exhausted and so glad this program is over!

Onto more interesting things in the morning....Just thought I'd mention where I've been!

Rehearsed Phone Calls

So when you are asked to make reminder phone calls to people do you rehearse them in your head? I do. I used to be a bill collector and we had a scrip. , At first, I could not deviate from the script, after a few months I could wing it, but still used phrases from the script.

Our ward is not a large one, our Primary Presidency of four, evenly splitting the roster of families to call to remind them of Program Practice gives us each approximately four and that's even reminding the teachers. It was a very random, round robin, way that we doled out the names, and we excluded our own - thank you, but I will remember to bring Jakey to practice because I'll be there too. So I end up with four names to call, the bishop's counselor's kids - both of them, my visiting teaching companion (who NEVER returns my calls), and The Most Difficult Child In Our Primary's family. I rehearse what I'm going to say to them, "Sister _________ this is Sister Parnell" (some of the mom's I'm closer to and I say their first name and say my first name, but most of these ladies are alot older than me because I ended up with the senior primary list) "I'm calling to remind _________ of our program practice tomorrow at 4:00 in the chapel." I'm HOPING desperately that by saying "in the chapel" they'll assume the child should be wearing a bit nicer clothing, skirts for girls, etc without my actual saying "appropriate chapel clothing". So I begin my calls.

We have a boy in our Primary whose first name sounds like a last name, and his last name is a pretty common Mormon name - Young. So keeping my rehearsed script in mind I call Sister Young, and accidentally call her Sister Child's First Name. Oops. I apologized and said, oops, sorry I'm looking at his name on my list and made a mistake, and carry on with my message. Now I've only been in this ward about one and a half years and I barely know this woman because she's only been coming out to church for a few months since her husband got called into the bishopric because she was suffering from some very severe depression. So Sister Young says, well he'll need a ride. I offer to give him one, and I get an "uh o......kay....." kind of like "I don't know who the heck you are I won't send my kid with you!" So I say quickly, "or Sister _______ can" (Primary President). That seemed to make her happier. I mean I guess I wouldn't want someone running off with my kid, but I guess growing up and having YW leaders pick me up for things and sharing rides for seminary has jaded me that I assume most of the time if someone from church is picking up my kid, they're an ok person, right?

Anyhow - yeah, so the rest of the conversations we're nearly so awkward. As I expected my VT companion didn't answer my phone call (caller ID helps with that I'm sure) and so I'll just have to hope her four kids show up.....

I totally prefer emails and IMs, this phone thing is too stressful!

Leaf Me Ulon!

So yesterday Justin fell asleep while we were picking up Jakey and so when we got home I put him in his bed and told Jakey he could play on nick.com while I took a nap. Once I fell asleep I was awoken by the sound of the phone ringing. I answer it and it's my friend Yaneth asking me if I'm ok, I told her yes why? She says, well I IMed you and you're sending me really weird messages. I look over and Jakey's just playing on nick.com so I'm like let me figure out what Jakey's done and call you back. I come to the computer and he had closed the IM so I had to look in my recorded IMs (we track them all) and sure enough it went something like this.....

Yaneth: Hello!

Jakey (as my screenname): I'm going to wereiwuer.

Yaneth: What?

Jakey: Leaf

Yaneth: Is this you Jakey?

Jakey: Leaf

Yaneth: Are you ok Jakey?

Jakey: Leaf me ulon!!!!

Apparently he's heard bad things about pesky people who IM you and pretend to know your name, since Yaneth's screenname is sillymama1029 I'm sure he wasn't expecting it to be her. So anyhow after a long talk about how people think it's really me on the computer and to just not answer IMs or log off messenger when getting on my computer, he now understands who it was he was talking to and who they thought they were talking to. Anyhow so if anyone else IMed me yesterday at 3PM and I acted a bit funny, no I wasn't going crazy and I'm not mad at you cause I didn't say "Leaf Me Ulon", Jakey did! LOL

You all won't tell will you? I'm planning a surprise baby shower for a friend. Yeah, I know. It has been rough to do, but she really deserves one. It's her 4th baby so it's trickier cause I'm not big on going to baby showers for people who are on their 4th kid, and neither is anyone else, so I had to make it NOT a babyshower at the same time, just that I wanted her to know that we think this baby is special too. This will be her 4th child in 5 years, so she's pretty well set, but alot of her bigger items (carseat, double stroller) have seen better days having been through that many kids. So the plan is after the Relief Society Broadcast this Saturday night, we're taking her to Baker's Square for dessert and giving her some presents. So she knows she's going with me and one other person, the surprise is that it's going to be half the ward and some other people I know she's close to, so about 15 of us. Anyhow, dessert at a restaurant seemed like the more logical thing to do for someone having their 4th child in 5 years.

Well, I should get Jakey off to school and start my day. I need to stay home and work on the house more but I want to go to the mall and look at sales for clearance clothes....hmmmmm which will win out? Hmmmm......

Have a great day!

Anyhow...

Now that those severely boring blogs are over :) Let's move on....

I have to deal with my archenemy today. My archenemy is my messy house. I have been running in the mornings all week, no not actual physical jogging running, leaving my hosue at unreasonable hours of the morning to various doctor's appointments and preschools. Today, I am committed to cleaning this house! I even have a reward in mind if I get it cleaned by the time Jakey gets out of school, I will go to Walmart and buy myself some fall decorations to put around the house to celebrate it's cleanliness! Exciting? I know!

In other news, I found frozen Hawaaian Pizza at Albertson's last night! Yeah, think back, have you EVER seen frozen Hawaaian Pizza at the grocery store? I bet not! It's all pepperoni, supreme, and cheese, but not anymore, they have Hawaaian now! Now, personally, I'm not a fan of Hawaaian Pizza, I prefer Pepperoni, but my six year old, loves the stuff. Yep, according to him, a mixture of eating Hawaaian (previously frozen) Pizza, drinking 7 UP (RARE treat) and watching Cheaper By The Dozen 2, I won the award of BEST MOM EVER! last night, go me! Truthfully, I had a headache and was being lazy....but he's happy so it's ok.

So anyhow, time to take him to school (I'll lose my award I'm sure) and then get back here, in my jammies, crank up some music, and face the music (and the dirt). Later!

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

There ya have it. My body truly is just falling apart one peice at a time. Basically my dr said it will take about 6 months of tests, bloodwork, messing with medicine levels, to get it under control. That I have a goiter not a nodule, that it's amazing to him that with PCOS and Hashimoto's I ever had any children without help.

Anyhow, there you have it, a 25 year old who's falling apart.

Huh?

I'm just confused now that the dr's nurse called! My thyroid ultrasound shows a nodule, my labs show an imbalance, the nodule is making too much/too little (can't remember if she said hyper or hypo - no worries I see the dr tomorrow) thyroid hormones, so we're not going to remove the nodule, we're going to give me pills to fix my hormones? What?

Does that make sense? I asked the nurse, "why would I take pills when we can just remove the nodule?" and she says,"why would you remove the nodule if you could just take pills?" No, the nodule will not go away with pills. So it does not make sense! Good thing I'm meeting with the actual doctor tomorrow....that's just nuts! I mean I'm not really wanting a surgery here, but it doesn't make sense to me! Maybe the doctor can explain better his reasoning for choosing this treatment for me.

Wow, what a weekend!

Remember (some of you) when I posted this picture of how windy it was in Bakersfield?

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Ya, so we got lower temps, and wind, awful, awful high winds! Wind + no rain = Dust Storm. Dust Storm = everyone in Bakersfield has an allergy attack. I spent Saturday waking up every four hours and showering to steam my head some, then drink a cup of Theraflu and go back to bed! Yikes!

Anyhow, hopefully the cooler weather stays, I'm kind of done with my summer wardrobe, but we could use some rain to keep the dust on the ground!

In other news, I was able to find the power supply cord for my memory card reader and shortly there will be RECENT pictures posted!! Yay! You know you're excited! LOL When I was looking through them I saw the coolest 4 or 5 shot set of Jakey sitting on the seat of a dunk tank at Pioneer Day, Natalle has the baseball, she's aiming it, the look of terror on Jakey's face as he realizes his cousin might be able to hit the target, then WOOSH! He's underwater, Kevin's pulling him out, then he's sitting on the grass looking like a drowned rat, not terribly impressed with his cousin's pitching abilities! It's great!

Well I'll be back to comment on some blogs, hope they're updated! ;)

Me and My Pretty Pink Blog

Ah, there it's set up. Now what? LOL

Blogging is so "in" right now, so I guess it's "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em".

So what is there to say about my life today? Well let's start at the title of my blog "hmmmm....." Yeah what am I supposed to say? Confessions of a Smart Blonde? A Mother's Ramblings? "hmmmm...." will have to do until I feel inspired.

So in Cali today it's in the 80's, sweater time! Seriously though, it's actually pretty cold, compared to it being over 100 just days ago. Tomorrow the high is just 80 degrees, yeah, winter's coming! I know we are wimps, I know that it's much colder everywhere else, we're thin blooded people here in Cali, we can't take it!

Ok and then on the off chance I got a reader who doesn't already know me (don't think that'll happen as I'm just not THAT interesting....) I'm Dawn, married to Kevin, and we have two boys, Jacob will be 7 next month and Justin is 2 1/2, and obviously, we're from California.
